This small-group six-day extension travels from La Paz through Charazani to the remote Apolo region. The outward journey occupies much of the first two days, with available birding near Charazani before the longer drive north. Once in the Apolo area, one complete field day covers cerrado toward Aten and another explores dry forest in the Machariapo Valley.
The two central searches are Inti Tanager and Palkachupa Cotinga. The return route begins early through the Apolo Yungas, with additional stops as time and road conditions permit, before an overnight in Charazani and the final transfer to La Paz. These birds remain targets rather than guaranteed sightings. The published estimate for the itinerary is 175-200 species.
The extension is explicitly rated difficult and is intended for committed birders. It involves substantial walking and road journeys that can reach 12 hours; the route is also vulnerable to washouts and landslides during wetter periods.
