7-Day Northeast Brazil Endemics from Aracaju with Boute Expeditions
A seven-day northeast Brazil birding route from Aracaju through Estância, Canudos and Chapada do Araripe for Lear's Macaw, Araripe Manakin and Caatinga specialties.
About this tour
Cross a productive sequence of northeast Brazil habitats, beginning with Atlantic Forest remnants near Estância and continuing through Caatinga landscapes around Jeremoabo and Canudos to the forested slopes and tablelands of Chapada do Araripe.
The route is designed around two exceptional endemics: Lear's Macaw at Canudos and Araripe Manakin near Crato. It also searches for Fringe-backed Fire-eye, regional parrots, antwrens, woodpeckers, nightjars, hummingbirds and other northeast specialties.
The core program is seven days and six nights and can operate as a fixed or private departure. Three optional post-tour regions are described by Boute Expeditions. Current dates, extension sequence, lodging, inclusions and price are confirmed after inquiry.

Meet at Aracaju airport and transfer south to Estância with birding along the route. Depending on arrival time, add an easy coastal walk before the overnight.
Bird Atlantic Forest remnants around Estância for Fringe-backed Fire-eye, parrots, manakins and wetland species, then continue toward Jeremoabo with Caatinga birding en route.
Travel the back road from Jeremoabo to Canudos with frequent birding stops. Spend the afternoon in Caatinga habitat and watch Lear's Macaws return to their roost, followed by a possible nightjar search.
Make the overland journey to Crato with selected birding stops through northeast Brazil, arriving near Chapada do Araripe by the end of the day.
Focus first on the endemic Araripe Manakin, then bird higher forest and Caatinga-influenced habitat for woodpeckers, xenops, antpittas, antwrens, hummingbirds and other regional specialties.
Use a full, easy-paced day to revisit the strongest habitats around Crato and Chapada do Araripe for missing targets and deeper natural-history interpretation.
End the core program with the transfer toward Maceió, or continue by prior arrangement to one of the detailed northeast extensions such as Quebrangulo and Murici, Serra do Baturité, or Recife and Fernando de Noronha.
