ATT Sarus Crane Adventure
A full-day visit to Ang Trapaeng Thmor for Sarus Cranes, storks, raptors and other waterbirds across a reservoir, rice fields and seasonal wetlands.
About this tour
Ang Trapaeng Thmor, usually shortened to ATT, lies about 1.5 hours from Siem Reap. Its man-made reservoir is bordered by rice paddies, grassland and sedges, with a limited patch of disturbed deciduous woodland adding another habitat for birds.
Sarus Cranes are the central focus. During the dry-season gathering, particularly from January into spring, cranes forage in the fields around the reservoir; at its seasonal peak, this gathering can represent a substantial share of Cambodia's population. Other possibilities include Painted Stork, Greater Spotted Eagle, Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged jacanas, Grey-headed Swamphen, White-browed Crake and Cotton Pygmy Goose. These are wild birds, so the final list depends on current conditions.
The day combines guided birding around the wetland and adjoining rural landscape with transport from Siem Reap. The route supports local guiding and conservation work while giving visitors enough time to explore several parts of the reserve rather than treating ATT as a brief roadside stop.
