A two-day forest birding and photography trip to Changkran Roy, centered on a community-supported hide and elusive ground birds.
About this tour
Changkran Roy lies about 1.5 hours from Siem Reap and supports a mix of birdlife, butterflies and other forest fauna. This two-day version is built around time at a sponsored hide developed with the Changkran Roy Ecotourism Committee and Cambodian bird photographers.
The hide produced records of both Bar-bellied Pitta and Coral-billed Ground Cuckoo that SVC confirmed in March 2023. February to March is identified as the best period for the ground cuckoo. That record guides the search but does not guarantee a future sighting, so the experience also values patient observation and photography of whatever forest wildlife is active.
Facilities at Changkran Roy remain basic, an important consideration for this overnight programme. In return, visitors gain more field time than a day trip and directly support a community ecotourism site while exploring a less conventional birding area close to Siem Reap.
