Sable Island Cruise
An eight-day voyage from St. John’s visits Sable Island’s dunes and wildlife by Zodiac when conditions permit, with a stop in Saint-Pierre on the return.
About this tour
Sail from Newfoundland into the northwest Atlantic, watching from deck for seabirds, whales and dolphins. The expedition has several days around Sable Island, where wild horses and grey seals share the dunes and shore with terns. The Ipswich form of Savannah Sparrow breeds only on Sable Island.
Landings by Zodiac depend on weather and are coordinated with Parks Canada. Naturalists explain the island’s dunes, wildlife and maritime history. After a guided visit and free time in Saint-Pierre, the ship returns to St. John’s.

Itinerary
Day 1
Embark in St. John’s
Leave St. John’s Harbour through the Narrows, passing Signal Hill. As the ship heads out into the Atlantic, look for Cape Spear off the starboard side.
Day 2
At sea in the northwest Atlantic
The expedition team introduces the ecology, geology and history of Sable Island. From the outer decks, look for seabirds, dolphins and whales. The ship has indoor lounges and a library between deck watches.
Day 6
Days 3 to 6 around Sable Island
Visit the island in coordination with Parks Canada. Land by Zodiac if weather allows and look for horses and grey seals around the shore and dunes. Watch for Ipswich Sparrows in the dune vegetation and for Arctic and Common Terns overhead. The naturalists share stories of shipwrecks and the island’s former life-saving stations. Zodiac outings offer another way to see its coastline.
Day 7
Saint-Pierre guided visit
Visit Saint-Pierre off Newfoundland’s south coast. Take a guided tour, then spend free time exploring the streets, cafés or a local museum.
Day 8
Morning return to St. John’s
The ship returns to St. John’s in the morning.
