About this tour
Spend a morning observing the birds moving through Quebec in autumn. These small-group field walks are led by Joël Coutu, whose work combines bird guiding, avian behavior and education. The emphasis is on recognizing birds in the field, understanding what they are doing and improving observation techniques. Beginners can join alongside birders who want to develop their existing skills.
Each date is a separate four-hour outing at its announced site, rather than a circuit visiting every location. The remaining regular 2026 program includes Plaisance on October 17, Île Notre-Dame on October 25, Mount Royal Cemetery for the Halloween outing on October 31, Technoparc on November 21 and Montreal Botanical Garden on December 6. All of these walks run from 8 a.m. to noon. The birding focus changes with the setting and the season: waterfowl, raptors and migrant songbirds feature in the autumn program, with boreal migrants and other wintering birds becoming relevant later.
The guiding fee is CAD 20 per person for one regular walk, or CAD 50 for three regular walks. Young people aged 10–17 can take part free when accompanied by an adult. This offer applies to the regular walks; separately priced excursions and multi-day trips have their own arrangements. Advance reservation keeps the group small enough for shared observation and discussion.
