Photograph wintering Snowy Owls with Frank Johnson in the open prairie country around Rosetown, Saskatchewan. This outing centers on the owls and the changing winter light, rather than a broad birdwatching circuit. Snow-covered fields provide uncluttered backgrounds, and the photographs may include perched birds or owls in flight. Both male and female owls are the focus of the experience; conditions and individual encounters vary.
Rosetown is the usual accommodation base. Visitors arriving by air fly to Saskatoon, then drive a little over an hour to Rosetown in an all-wheel-drive rental vehicle. During the tour, participants continue to drive their own vehicles and follow Frank to the photography areas. He does not transport guests. Photography takes place near the vehicles, so there is a nearby place to warm up, change lenses or put away equipment.
Group outings can be arranged for one to five days and accommodate no more than six photographers. A separate private format requires at least four days and allows up to ten participants plus their leader. The winter 2027 program runs through January, February and March; particular dates and places are confirmed for each inquiry. Extra dates depend on snow conditions and demand. A five-day workshop using wide-angle lenses and wireless remote shutter releases is also offered specifically for Snowy Owl photography.
Frank has worked with Snowy Owls on the Canadian prairie for more than eleven years. His role during the outings is to guide guests rather than take his own photographs. He works with owls accustomed to people, and the photography format emphasizes time at selected field locations rather than carrying equipment across extensive areas.
Bring clothing suitable for cold-weather photography, with winter camouflage as the outer layer. Guests can receive accommodation recommendations, while the guiding quote and payment arrangements are agreed individually. Group pricing and deposits are quoted on request; private guiding is priced per day for the group. The operator states that payments are nonrefundable.

How many days can I book?
Group guiding is available for one to five days. Private programs have a four-day minimum and can take up to ten participants plus their leader. The separate wide-angle remote photography workshop lasts five days.
Does the guide provide transport?
No. Rent an all-wheel-drive vehicle and drive it throughout the outing, following the guide from the Rosetown area.
What clothing should I bring?
Prepare for cold outdoor photography. The operator requests winter camouflage clothing as the outer layer; detailed clothing recommendations are available when arranging the trip.
How are prices and cancellations handled?
Request a current guiding quote and deposit amount. Group quotes may be in Canadian or US dollars; private rates are per day for the group. The operator does not offer refunds.
