Ptarmigan Tour – Exciting 2026 quest for this pure white grouse
A private two-day winter self-drive expedition from Saskatoon into northeastern Saskatchewan in search of Willow Ptarmigan.
About this tour
Travel north from Saskatoon for a focused winter search along the Hanson Lake Road and other forested areas near Creighton. The principal aim is Willow Ptarmigan, with additional opportunities for northern forest birds as conditions allow.
The guide brings a spotting scope and welcomes both new and experienced birdwatchers. Participants use their own or rented vehicle, which must have snow tyres and good clearance; the remote route is not considered suitable for a fully electric vehicle.
Private two-day tours are offered from December through March for parties of up to four. Severe cold or winter storms may require postponement or cancellation, and no target sighting can be guaranteed.
