King Penguin Colony and Birding the Steppes of Tierra del Fuego
A two-day, one-night private journey from Punta Arenas to the King Penguin Colony and the bird-rich steppes of Tierra del Fuego.
About this tour
Cross the Strait of Magellan for a private two-day journey through the steppes and coastal habitats of Tierra del Fuego. Travelling from Punta Arenas by ferry, the route continues through Porvenir and the open Fuegian landscape to the King Penguin Colony. The combination of ferry crossings, lagoons, coast and steppe offers opportunities for King Penguin, Magellanic Plover, Lesser Rhea, Flying Steamer Duck, Magellanic Horned Owl, Chilean Flamingo and Black-necked Swan.
An overnight stay in Porvenir allows more time for birding than a rushed day crossing. The experience combines one of Patagonia's best-known wildlife encounters with searches for less conspicuous regional specialties. Weather and ferry operations can influence the order and timing of activities, so the final route is confirmed for the requested dates.
