The first day leaves Punta Arenas by ferry across the Strait of Magellan and continues overland through Tierra del Fuego to the King Penguin colony. Ferry observation and steppe stops broaden the day beyond the colony itself before an overnight stay in Porvenir.
Morning birding around saline lagoons adds a focused search for Magellanic Plover, followed by the northbound drive and a second strait crossing at Primera Angostura.
