A private 8-10-hour birding route from Punta Arenas through Strait of Magellan coast, wetlands and sub-Antarctic forest to the Ruddy-headed Goose reserve.
About this tour
The day starts on the Punta Arenas waterfront, then follows the coast south past lagoons and creeks before entering the sub-Antarctic forest zone. Coastal birds, waterfowl and forest species provide a changing focus as the route approaches the San Juan River area.
The Ruddy-headed Goose reserve, roughly 60 kilometres south of the city, is the final named destination. The year-round private program includes birding guidance, a 4x4 vehicle, box lunch and optical equipment. Eight to ten hours are allowed, with the sequence adjusted to conditions and current bird activity.
