Agrícola Camelias Birding and Photography from Cartagena
Spend a birding morning at Agrícola Camelias, exploring transitional forest, organic crops and a lake, with feeders and spaces designed for bird photography.
About this tour
Agrícola Camelias brings several birding settings together around a lodge near Turbaco. Its vegetation transitions from tropical dry forest into denser woodland, while patches of scrub, a lake, gallery forest and organic crop areas create different places to stop and search. Birds and insects use the cultivated areas as well as the forest, so the outing moves between habitats instead of concentrating on a single trail.
The reserve has feeders, water stations and selected baited observation sites, together with spaces adapted for bird photography. Some watching therefore takes place around managed feeding areas, while other sections follow trails and the lake edge. Maicol reports that a productive morning can produce as many as 90 species; this is a possibility, not a fixed species total for every visit.
The example day starts with a 5:10 a.m. pickup around Cartagena’s walled city and about an hour on the road. Fruit, coffee and water precede the main trail session, followed by lemonade, breakfast and further birding beside the lake. The birding program lasts about six hours; transfers extend the overall outing, with the example return to Cartagena around 1:30 p.m.
Guidance is available in English and Spanish for one to ten guests, with transport arranged according to group size. An optional lunch adds roughly one to two hours for a longer visit. An overnight stay at the lodge can also be discussed as a separate extension.
