About this tour

Explore Colombia’s Coffee Region on a six-day private birding journey through forest reserves, mountain roads, traditional farms and river habitat. The route begins near Pereira with field time around Otún Quimbaya, then crosses to Filandia and Salento before finishing at the Quindío Botanical Garden.

Each stage adds a different elevation and bird community. Otún Quimbaya and nearby countryside offer possibilities such as Red-ruffed Fruitcrow, Multicolored Tanager, Cauca Guan and Crested Ant-Tanager. Kiraikai Reserve brings forest walks and hummingbird feeders, while the high wax-palm country above Salento is visited for Yellow-eared Parrot and other montane species. A later day combines coffee-farm birding with the Quindío River, where Torrent Duck and other waterside birds may be found.

The program also leaves room for the region’s cultural character. Guests can walk through Filandia and Salento, learn how coffee is grown and processed, and choose between additional birding or quieter time in town where the itinerary allows. The final botanical-garden visit adds native plants, palm collections and another concentrated birding session before the airport transfer.

The tour is designed for a low-to-moderate physical level and can be adjusted toward intensive birding or a more relaxed balance of birds, scenery and local culture. Rain and changing mountain weather are possible. All bird observations remain dependent on current field conditions.
