Spend a private half or full day birding among the cultivated fields and ponds of Long Valley in Hong Kong’s New Territories. Water levels, vegetation and farming activity change throughout the year, so the guide selects the strongest current areas rather than following a fixed circuit.
Open-country possibilities include pipits, wagtails, Daurian Redstart, Long-tailed Shrike and Black Drongo. Wetter plots can attract Wood Sandpiper, snipe and occasional secretive species such as Cinnamon Bittern or Purple Heron. Rice fields have also drawn scarce visitors, but every sighting remains dependent on season and conditions.
The outing covers about 3-6 km on mainly level nature paths. Pickup is arranged at an appropriate East Rail Line station, with private-car transfers to and from the birding area. Start time is confirmed for the date and seasonal bird activity.
