Private Sattal, Chanfi and Pangot Birding Tour with Ankit Das
Spend four private birding days across Sattal, the Chanfi river corridor and Pangot, following changing elevations with Uttarakhand guide Ankit Das.
About this tour
This private four-day route brings three contrasting Kumaon birding areas into one field programme with Ankit Das. Sattal provides lake-edge and broadleaf woodland, Chanfi follows the Kalsa River through streamside forest, and Pangot reaches higher oak, deodar and rhododendron country.
The habitat changes widen the search from dippers, forktails and kingfishers near water to piculets, broadbills, flycatchers, laughingthrushes, pheasants and owls in forest. Named birds describe useful priorities rather than a checklist promise; season, weather and natural movement determine what appears.
Early starts, quiet observation and patient listening shape the daily plan. Hide or natural photography sessions may be used where access is available, while river walks, forest roads and higher-elevation stops let Ankit respond to current activity. Any owl search must follow safe access and respectful viewing distance.
The published duration follows four field days. Price, actual party capacity, pickup and transfers, accommodation, meals, hide or entrance charges and other package terms are supplied in the final quotation. BirdWatch will verify the currently displayed one-person capacity before booking.

Itinerary
Day 1
From the lake country to the Kalsa River
After the agreed transfer into the Bhimtal and Sattal area, begin along the wooded river corridor at Chanfi. Watch and listen around the Kalsa River for stream and forest birds, with the afternoon route selected for current activity and safe access.
Day 2
A full Sattal field day
Use the early hours for a quiet hide or natural photography setting, then combine Sattal woodland with another pass through river habitat near Chanfi. If conditions suit the group, the later session can include a responsible search for nocturnal birds.
Day 3
Higher forests around Pangot
Climb to Pangot before the busier part of the day and work through oak, deodar and rhododendron forest. Ankit adjusts stops to voices and fresh activity as the higher elevation introduces a different mix of pheasants and Himalayan woodland birds.
Day 4
A flexible final search across Sattal and Chanfi
Return to the most useful habitats for priorities missed earlier, dividing time between Sattal forest and, when appropriate, a Chanfi trail. Broadbills, piculets, orioles and owls are possible objectives, but the final choices depend on season, recent observations and ethical viewing distance.
