Private Sattal, Chanfi and Pangot Birding Tour with Ankit Das
A private four-day Kumaon birding journey through Sattal, Chanfi and Pangot, combining lake-edge, river, oak-forest and higher-elevation habitats with Uttarakhand guide Ankit Das.
About this tour
Explore the Kumaon foothills of Uttarakhand on a private birding journey with local naturalist and guide Ankit Das. The documented route combines Sattal and Bhimtal lake country with the Kalsa River trail at Chanfi, bird hides and natural photography sites, and the higher forests around Pangot.
The elevation change brings varied Himalayan habitats into one flexible programme: lakes and streams, broadleaf woodland, rhododendron, oak and deodar forest. Early starts and patient listening help shape each day around current activity, personal target birds and photography priorities.
The itinerary is a review draft based on a publicly documented Ankit-led trip. Exact duration, pickup, transport, accommodation, meals, site fees, seasonal targets and current price are confirmed with a personalised proposal. A high-altitude Chopta extension may also be possible, subject to Ankit confirming its current route and logistics.
Itinerary ▼
Travel from the agreed pickup point to the Bhimtal/Sattal area. Begin with afternoon and evening birding around Chanfi and the Kalsa River trail, listening and watching along streamside forest for dippers, forktails, owlets, thrushes and other river-valley species.
Start at dawn with a patient hide session, then revisit Chanfi for river specialists and continue to a Sattal photography site. The day can finish with a carefully guided search for nocturnal birds when conditions are suitable.
Leave early for Pangot and work quiet forest roads through rhododendron, oak and deodar habitat. The change in elevation adds pheasants and higher-Himalayan forest birds to the route, with stops adjusted to calls, recent activity and photography opportunities.
Use the final day for target species missed earlier around Sattal, then make a focused forest walk near Chanfi when appropriate. The documented route included searches for broadbills, piculets, orioles, fish owls and owlets; the actual plan follows current conditions and ethical viewing practice.
