About this tour

Paradise Lost lies on the outskirts of Nairobi and brings several habitats together in a compact setting. Wetlands, grassland, plantations and forest surround the site’s waterfall and obsidian caves, creating opportunities for both waterbirds and woodland species.

Birding is entirely on foot along nature trails, allowing quiet observation at wetland edges and beneath the forest canopy. Possible waterbirds include Little Grebe, African Spoonbill, Yellow-billed Stork, herons, cormorants and African Darter. Raptors recorded at the site range from African Fish Eagle and African Harrier-Hawk to Long-crested Eagle and Augur Buzzard.

The caves and waterfall are associated with Mau Mau history during Kenya’s independence struggle. An on-site coffee factory is another possible stop during the visit. The exact walking circuit depends on trail access, water conditions and current activity, and no listed bird or species total is guaranteed.
