About this tour

Travel from Marrakech across the High Atlas to Boumalne Dades on a three-day private birding route. The programme starts and ends in Marrakech, operates on request from September to May and uses a comfortable 4x4 with two nights of half-board hotel accommodation.

The outward journey crosses Tizi n'Tichka and pauses around Ouarzazate and the Mansour Eddahbi reservoir. Mountain, dry-country and wetland stops create opportunities to search for birds such as Tristram's Warbler, Long-legged Buzzard, Bonelli's Eagle, Maghreb Wheatear, Desert Lark, Marbled Duck and Ruddy Shelduck.

A full morning at Tagdilt Track is followed by birding in Dades Gorge, where the working list includes Cream-colored Courser, sandgrouse, desert larks and wheatears, Pharaoh Eagle-Owl, Rock Bunting and other cliff birds. Day three returns through Ouarzazate and the High Atlas with additional stops where time and conditions permit. The itinerary is flexible, sightings are not guaranteed and the price depends on the requested dates and party size.

Day 1
Marrakech - Tizi n'Tichka - Ouarzazate - Boumalne Dades
Boumalne Dades
High Atlas road, mountain stops, reservoir edge and dry plateau
Leave Marrakech for Boumalne Dades across the Tizi n'Tichka pass. Stops in the High Atlas may produce Tristram's Warbler, Long-legged Buzzard or Bonelli's Eagle before the route continues through Amerzgane for Maghreb Wheatear and Desert Lark. Near Ouarzazate, check the Mansour Eddahbi reservoir for Marbled Duck, Ruddy Shelduck, stilts, cormorants, herons and seasonal waders, then continue to the hotel in Boumalne Dades.
Day 2
Tagdilt Track and Dades Gorge
Tagdilt Track
Stony plateau, open semi-desert and rocky gorge
Start early on Tagdilt Track, where careful scanning may reveal Cream-colored Courser or Black-bellied Sandgrouse. Desert, Temminck's, Bar-tailed and Thick-billed larks share the working list with wheatears and Trumpeter Finch; Pharaoh Eagle-Owl, Lanner Falcon and Long-legged Buzzard are further possibilities. Continue to Dades Gorge for Crag Martin, Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Bunting, Bonelli's Eagle and another opportunity for Tristram's Warbler.
Day 3
Boumalne Dades - Ouarzazate - High Atlas - Marrakech
Marrakesh
Road transfer with plateau and High Atlas birding stops
Return toward Marrakech along the same mountain corridor, using suitable plateau and High Atlas stops for additional birding. Arrival is planned for late afternoon; if the schedule allows, the final session can continue around Marrakech before the airport transfer.
