A nine-day Beira and Catapu birding journey through coastal wetlands, mangroves, grasslands, lowland forest and miombo pockets.
About this tour
Begin around Beira with Rio Maria, Nhangaan Forest and the Rio Savane wetlands, combining coastal mudflats, mangroves, short grass, reedbeds and forest-edge birding. The route then travels about 250 kilometres to Catapu for several full days in Mozambique lowland forest.
Daily excursions explore Catapu, nearby Coutadas, Inhamitanga and scattered miombo pockets for highly localised east-coast birds, mixed feeding parties and seasonal migrants. The journey returns to Beira on day eight, followed by a final morning before departure.

Day 1
Beira arrival and Rio Maria
Meet at Beira Airport, settle near the coast and begin at Rio Maria for shorebirds, terns, mangrove birds and other coastal species.
Day 2
Nhangaan Forest and Rio Savane
Bird Nhangaan Forest and surrounding grasslands, then continue to the Rio Savane wetlands, mudflats and mature mangroves.
Day 3
Beira to Catapu
Travel roughly 250 kilometres toward Catapu, birding productive roadside and lowland forest stops before an afternoon forest session.
Day 4
Catapu lowland forest
Begin full-day exploration from Catapu for forest specialists, mixed bird parties and birds around camp.
Day 5
Coutadas forest excursions
Explore large forest blocks in the nearby Coutadas, concentrating on east-coast specialists and mixed feeding flocks.
Day 6
Inhamitanga and forest mosaics
Continue through Inhamitanga and adjoining forest mosaics, checking canopy openings and forest edge for migrants and regional specialities.
Day 7
Miombo pockets and remaining targets
Search scattered miombo pockets and revisit productive forest areas for remaining targets, allowing time for careful work with mixed parties.
Day 8
Catapu to Beira
Return to Beira with birding stops for species missed earlier, then stay overnight near the coast.
Day 9
Final Beira birding and departure
Use the morning for relaxed local birding before the confirmed departure flight.
