About this tour
Explore the meeting point of the Namib Desert and Atlantic Ocean on a private birding trip led by Rolling Hills Safaris Namibia. The standard half-day starts in Walvis Bay and works through productive coastal habitat towards Pelican Point, using the lagoon, salt works and adjacent desert margins to find both waterbirds and arid-country specialists.
The mix of saline wetlands, shoreline and sand gives the guide room to balance broad observation with a focused species search. Dune Lark can be requested as a priority, while Damara Tern, Chestnut-banded Plover, flamingos, pelicans, African Oystercatcher and other shorebirds may shape the day according to season and conditions. These are targets, never guaranteed sightings.
The published half-day runs for about 5.5 hours, normally from 07:30 to 13:00. A 10-11-hour version can extend the field range from Rooibank to Pelican Point and usually returns around 17:30-18:00. Morning departures are preferred when winds are often lighter, although an afternoon half-day can also be arranged.
