Small-Group Namibia Grand Tour
A small-group 17-day Namibia grand circuit from the Namib coast to Etosha, the Kavango region and northwest Botswana, estimated at 350-400 species.
About this tour
This small-group 17-day route extends across central and northern Namibia and into northwest Botswana. From Windhoek it crosses the Khomas Hochland to the Namib dunes, Sossusvlei and Deadvlei before reaching Walvis Bay. Coastal birding at the Kuiseb Riverbed, saltworks and Pelican Point is followed by Swakopmund, Damaraland, Spitzkoppe and the Erongo Mountains.
Three stages of birding and game viewing cross Etosha National Park. The itinerary then reaches the Kavango River near Rundu, Gusu Woodlands and Shamvura before continuing to Bwabwata and Mahango. A border crossing into Botswana adds the northwest Okavango Delta near Shakawe. Roy's Rest Camp and Waterberg Plateau complete the return to Windhoek. The official estimate is 350-400 species.
The program is rated moderate because it combines frequent transfers and early mornings, even though most fieldwork is physically easy and vehicle- or roadside-based. Dense northern woodland can make birding more challenging. Seasonal priorities differ: birds and migrants are most active from November to April, while dry-season waterholes concentrate mammals from May to October.
