About this tour

Arroyos y Esteros is one of the main birding areas near Asuncion, with wetlands and grasslands that can produce high numbers of waterbirds, marsh birds and open-country specialties in a short private outing.

The route offers half-day birding at Arroyos y Esteros or a full-day extension to San Bernardino, with expected totals of about 50 to 70 bird species and chances for IBA specialties such as Bearded Tachuri, Strange-tailed Tyrant and Cock-tailed Tyrant when seasonally present.

Start early from the hotel or agreed meeting point and drive to Arroyos y Esteros. Spend three to four hours birding wetlands and grasslands for waterbirds, marsh birds and open-country specialties. On the full-day version, continue after lunch toward San Bernardino for additional birding before returning to Asuncion.
