A three-day small-group journey into the Făgăraș Mountains for dawn observation of displaying Western Capercaillie from discreet tents.
About this tour
Travel into a quiet part of the Făgăraș Mountains during the spring lek season. The program is built around the chance to watch male Western Capercaillie display at dawn, with only three participants in each group.
Observation requires leaving in darkness to reach small tents before first light. Daytime mountain walks explore secluded trails, while the overnight stay is in a simple wilderness cabin at about 1,600 metres.
The program runs between 10 April and 10 May. Weather, snow, trail access and wild-bird activity determine the exact plan, so sightings and display behaviour can never be guaranteed.

Itinerary
Day 1
Into the Făgăraș Mountains
Meet the guide, transfer toward the Comisu area and continue to the wilderness cabin. Review the dawn plan, current trail conditions and low-impact observation rules.
Day 2
Pre-dawn lek observation
Leave in darkness and settle in discreet observation tents before first light. Watch quietly for displaying Western Capercaillie, then return for breakfast and a guided mountain walk when conditions allow.
Day 3
Final mountain birding and return
Use the final morning for another quiet wildlife or birding outing according to conditions, then leave the cabin and return by the agreed route.

Is a Capercaillie sighting guaranteed?
No. The tour visits suitable lek habitat at the right season, but display activity depends on wild birds, weather and access conditions.
How early does the day begin?
The group leaves in darkness so everyone can be inside the observation tents before first light. The exact time is set by the guide.
