About this tour
Travel from Oudtshoorn into the UNESCO-listed Swartberg landscape, working slowly upward through mountain fynbos by vehicle and on foot. The route is adjusted to the group while concentrating on birds associated with the pass, including Orange-breasted Sunbird, Cape Rockjumper, Cape Sugarbird, Cape Siskin, Ground Woodpecker and Victorin's Warbler. Day 1
Oudtshoorn to Swartberg Pass
Leave your Oudtshoorn guesthouse at a seasonally appropriate time and travel for about an hour to the pass. Use a mixture of roadside scans and short walks for roughly three hours of mountain birding, with a scenic coffee or tea and breakfast break. Descend at an easy pace and return to the guesthouse around midday or early afternoon.
