About this tour

Odiel is a vast wetland mosaic near Doñana, covering about 7,000 acres and supporting more than 285 recorded bird species. Saltmarsh, tidal water and lagoons can hold impressive concentrations throughout the year, making close observation one of the reserve’s defining strengths.

Resident flamingos, spoonbills, Marsh Harriers, Kentish Plovers and Black-winged Stilts share the landscape with wintering Ospreys, godwits, Grey Plovers and Bluethroats. Summer changes the picture again, bringing birds such as Bee-eaters, Collared Pratincoles, Montagu’s Harriers and several herons, while passage periods can add terns, knots and Spotted Redshanks.

The route crosses the Biosphere Reserve’s different wetland habitats and may continue to El Portil Lagoon when conditions make that stop useful.
