1-Day Mabamba and Entebbe Botanical Gardens Birding
A one-day Uganda birding route pairing the papyrus wetlands of Mabamba Bay with the forest edge and lakeshore habitats of Entebbe Botanical Gardens.
About this tour
This compact route combines two contrasting birding sites near Entebbe. The morning is devoted to Mabamba Bay, a Lake Victoria wetland where local canoe routes pass through papyrus channels and open mudflats. The principal focus is Shoebill, while the wetland setting also offers opportunities for jacanas, kingfishers, raptors and other water-associated birds.
After Mabamba, the programme continues at Entebbe Botanical Gardens. Its maintained paths provide easier walking through gardens, forest edge and lakeshore habitat, adding a different mix of birds to the wetland session. The day then ends back in Entebbe.

Begin at Mabamba Bay on Lake Victoria, using the wetland’s papyrus channels and mudflats to look for Shoebill and other waterbirds. Continue to Entebbe Botanical Gardens for easier walking through garden, forest-edge and lakeshore habitat before returning to Entebbe.
