2027 Louisiana Wading Bird Photography Tours with Charles Bush
A four-day, five-person Louisiana photography tour with three spring departures timed for courtship, active nests and late-season wading bird chicks.
About this tour
Photograph Louisiana’s spring nesting season in a group limited to five participants. Charles Bush leads this four-day program for photographers who want sustained opportunities with wading birds and the changing behavior around active rookeries. Field time is organized around light, nesting activity and comfortable working space, with individual guidance available when useful.
Each 2027 departure corresponds to a different stage of the breeding cycle. April concentrates on courtship, breeding plumage, territory establishment and nest building. May usually brings the busiest mix of incubation exchanges, occupied nests and the first chicks of several species. June is scheduled later for Roseate Spoonbill chicks, larger young birds and the stronger possibility of late-arriving Wood Storks.
Potential subjects include Roseate Spoonbill, Great and Snowy Egret, Great Blue and Little Blue Heron, White Ibis, Wood Stork, Green Heron, Common and Purple Gallinule, Prothonotary Warbler and Black-bellied Whistling Duck. Alligators and other wetland wildlife may also appear. Weather and wild nesting activity affect every session, so particular species, behaviors and photographic conditions cannot be guaranteed.
The schedule begins with an afternoon session on day one. Days two and three each include morning and afternoon photography, and the program ends after a final morning session on day four. This structure provides repeated access to changing light and behavior while preserving time for feedback on composition, camera settings and field technique.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival and afternoon photography
Meet for the opening briefing and begin with an afternoon photography session. The group works from selected wetland and boat-based positions as conditions allow, with time to settle into the field approach and concentrate on nesting behavior.
Day 2
Morning and afternoon nesting-bird sessions
Use both the morning and afternoon light for two dedicated photography sessions. Charles provides individual help as needed while participants work on behavior, composition and changing rookery activity.
Day 3
Full day of wading bird photography
Return for a second full day with morning and afternoon sessions. The exact subjects depend on the departure date, weather and current nesting stage, allowing the group to respond to the strongest opportunities.
Day 4
