About this tour

This private guiding format begins with the traveller’s priorities rather than a pre-set circuit. Mario develops the proposal around the number of days, group size, pace and target birds, then selects the Argentine regions that best fit those aims and the season.

Options can range from the Chaco, Yungas, High Andes, Monte and other northwest habitats to Iberá Marsh, Patagonia and the Buenos Aires coast. Representative possibilities include Chaco Owl, Many-colored Chaco Finch, Andean and James’s Flamingos, Strange-tailed Tyrant, Olrog’s Gull, Magellanic Plover and Magellanic Woodpecker. Only species and regions included in the final agreed route should be treated as programme targets.

Mario is a biologist, conservationist and senior guide with more than two decades of leadership in Argentina and wider South American environments. He is based in Salta, knows the cordilleran landscapes of northwest Argentina particularly well and guides in fluent English. His guide fee starts at USD 150 per day for a private group of one to eight. Vehicle, meals and accommodation are additional and are costed for the selected route.
