Acacia Pied Barbet

Tricholaema leucomelas

The Acacia Pied Barbet (Tricholaema leucomelas) is a small, colorful bird native to southern Africa. It is characterized by its striking black and white plumage, with a distinctive red forehead and throat. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of melodious whistles and trills. Acacia Pied Barbets are often found in savannas, woodlands, and open scrubland, where they forage for insects, fruits, and nectar. They are cavity nesters, often utilizing old woodpecker holes or other natural crevices. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to the long-term survival of this species.
