African Emerald Cuckoo, Chrysococcyx cupreus, breeds across Africa from Senegal and Gambia through South Sudan and Ethiopia, and south to Angola and eastern South Africa. It is a cuckoo in the family Cuculidae, first described by Shaw in 1792. The species is sexually dimorphic. Males show a green back and head with a yellow breast, while females have barred green and brown upperparts and green and white underparts. Its call is a four-note whistle, often remembered as “Hello Ju-dy”.
