Setophaga ruticilla (Linnaeus, 1758)

American Redstart, Setophaga ruticilla, is a New World warbler that breeds across North America from western Canada to south-eastern Canada and the eastern United States. It winters in Massachusetts, the West Indies and northern South America. A member of the order Passeriformes and the family Parulidae, it was described by Linnaeus in 1758. The bird is notable for the male’s red tail, which gives the species its name. It is a smallish warbler with a relatively long tail, and the breeding male is strikingly black with orange-red wing and tail patches.
