Ashy-faced Owl

Tyto glaucops (Kaup, 1852)

Ashy-faced Owl, Tyto glaucops, is a barn owl found on Hispaniola, Dominica and several islands of the Lesser Antilles. It was described by Kaup in 1852 and belongs to the family Tytonidae. The nominate form occurs on Hispaniola and Île de la Tortue, while T. g. nigrescens is on Dominica and T. g. insularis is in the southern Lesser Antilles from St. Vincent to Grenada. On Hispaniola it uses a wide range of natural and altered habitats, from lowlands to 2,000 m, and is most often associated with open ground and cover for nesting.
