Azure-hooded Jay, Cyanolyca cucullata, is a bird of Middle America, where it is widespread in the breeding range. It belongs to the crow and jay family and was described by Ridgway in 1885. It lives in subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. Four subspecies are known. The bird is 11 to 12 inches (28 to 30 cm) long and has dark blue plumage, a black head and upper chest, and a sky-blue rear crown and neck edged in white. It is secretive and hard to see in the wild.
