Balearic Shearwater

Puffinus mauretanicus

The Balearic Shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus) is a medium-sized seabird that belongs to the Procellariidae family. It has a dark brownish-grey upper body with a white underbelly. This species is known for its graceful flying and can be found in the Mediterranean Sea, particularly around the Balearic Islands. Balearic Shearwaters are skilled divers and feed on small fish and squid. They nest in burrows on remote islands and cliffs. Unfortunately, the population of Balearic Shearwaters has been declining due to threats such as pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction.
