Pogonornis dubius (Gmelin, JF, 1788)

Bearded Barbet, Pogonornis dubius, is a resident breeder in tropical west Africa, from Senegal, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau east to southern Chad and the Central African Republic. It is an African barbet of the family Lybiidae. Its most notable feature is the bristled base of its very thick bill, which gives the bird its name. It lives in wooded country and gardens, especially where fig trees are plentiful, and it also comes into gardens for fruit. It was first described by Gmelin in 1788.
