Black-backed Thornbill, Ramphomicron dorsale, is a hummingbird of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Colombia, within the family Trochilidae and order Apodiformes. It is found only in this isolated mountain area in far north-east Colombia. The bird is a monotypic species and shares its genus with the purple-backed thornbill. It has a very short black bill, with the male’s bill slightly curved down. Males and females differ in plumage, and both show a white spot behind the eye and purplish uppertail coverts.
