Black-capped Chickadee

The Black-capped Chickadee is a small, non-migratory songbird found in North America. Known for its distinctive black cap and bib, it has a gray back, white underside, and a short, stout bill. These social birds are often found in mixed flocks and are known for their acrobatic foraging behavior. They have a wide repertoire of vocalizations, including their namesake 'chick-a-dee-dee-dee' call. Black-capped Chickadees are adaptable and can be found in a variety of wooded habitats, including deciduous and coniferous forests, parks, and suburban areas. They primarily feed on insects, seeds, and berries. This species is not currently considered at risk.
