Black-necked Woodpecker, Colaptes atricollis, is a woodpecker of Peru in South America. It is a bird of the Peruvian Andes, with one form on the west slope from La Libertad to Tacna and another on the east slope from the Marañón River valley south to Huánuco Department. It uses semi-arid and arid country, including drier cloudforest, scrub with cacti, desert scrub, deciduous woodland, riparian woodland, orchards, plantations and gardens. It is mainly a resident, though seasonal changes in height are suspected. Its breeding season seems to peak in June and July.
