Black Swan, Cygnus atratus, is a swan in the Anatidae family and the Anseriformes order. It breeds across Australasia, including Australia apart from the north and south-central areas, Tasmania, and New Zealand’s North, South, Stewart and Chatham islands. In Australia it moves about in an irregular way, with its movements shaped by climate. It nests as a pair, and both adults take part in incubation and in raising the young. It may occur alone or in loose flocks, sometimes numbering in the hundreds or thousands.
