Blue Cotinga

Cotinga nattererii (Boissonneau, 1840)

Blue Cotinga, Cotinga nattererii, is a bird of Middle America and South America, breeding from Panama to north-west Ecuador. It belongs to the Cotingidae family and was described by Boissonneau in 1840. It is found in tropical moist lowland forest, including heavily altered former woodland, and also in the canopy of primary forest and tall secondary forest. The male is strikingly blue with a black throat and breast, a dark eye-ring, black wings and tail edged in blue, and a purple patch on the belly. The female is brown above and paler below, with pale feather edges.
