Blue Ground Dove

Claravis pretiosa

The Blue Ground Dove, or Claravis pretiosa, is a small, ground-dwelling dove found in Central and South America. It is known for its striking iridescent blue plumage on the upperparts and a rich chestnut color on the underparts. These doves are often found in humid lowland forests, where they forage for seeds, fruits, and insects on the forest floor. They are typically shy and elusive birds, often heard before they are seen. The Blue Ground Dove is not currently considered to be at risk, and its population is believed to be stable.
