Brown Boobook, Ninox scutulata, is an owl of the Oriental Region and the Palearctic, breeding from northern India to southern China and Borneo, and present outside the breeding season in Sulawesi and the Lesser Sundas. It is a typical owl with a hawk-like outline, created by its long tail and the lack of a clear facial disk. The upperparts are dark brown, the underparts whitish with reddish-brown streaking, and the tail is barred. The eyes are large and yellow. It was first described by Raffles in 1822.
