Brown Falcon

Falco berigora Vigors & Horsfield, 1827

Brown Falcon, Falco berigora, is a falcon of Australasia, breeding in Australia, western to south-eastern New Guinea, and islands west of New Britain in the south-eastern Bismarck Archipelago. It was described by Vigors and Horsfield in 1827. The species shows pale and dark plumage forms. Both usually have dark brown upperparts and wing coverts. Dark birds have mainly dark underparts with some light streaking, while pale birds have white underparts marked with brown, sometimes heavily. Pale individuals may also show striking white under tail coverts.
