Brown-rumped Seedeater
Crithagra tristriata (Rüppell, 1840)
Fringillidae — Finches, Euphonias
Brown-rumped Seedeater Crithagra tristriata is a finch in the family Fringillidae, found in montane forest, gardens, towns, villages, plantations and upland heath in Eritrea, Ethiopia and northern Somalia. It is native to the Ethiopian Highlands and Karkaar in Somaliland. The species was once placed in Serinus, but later moved to Crithagra after DNA studies showed that the earlier genus did not form a natural group. Its name refers to a brown rump, although this feature is often not obvious.
