Private Cape Peninsula Birding Day Tour with Birding Ecotours
A flexible private day from Cape Town combining Kirstenbosch, peninsula wetlands and an African Penguin colony, with Cape endemics and coastal birds.
About this tour
Explore several of the Cape Peninsula's most productive habitats on a private day tour from Cape Town. The programme is deliberately flexible: the guide selects the best combination of botanical garden, wetland and coastal sites for the season, weather and the group's priorities.
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is usually an important first stop. Its fynbos, wooded slopes and garden edges provide opportunities for Orange-breasted Sunbird, Cape Sugarbird, Cape Spurfowl, Lemon Dove, Southern Boubou and a broad supporting cast of Cape birds. Forest raptors, African Olive Pigeon and seasonal migrants may add variety, while the mountain setting gives the morning a strong sense of place.
A wetland session at Rondevlei or Strandfontein can produce Cape Teal, Cape Shoveler, flamingos, pelicans, spoonbills, thick-knees, kingfishers and reedbed warblers. The route also visits an African Penguin colony. When time and visitor interests allow, the day may extend farther down the peninsula toward Cape Point for rocky-shore birds, cormorants, African Oystercatcher and possible passing seabirds.
This is a broad habitat-sampling day rather than a fixed checklist. Some birds are scarce, seasonal or difficult to locate, and the most productive site order can change at short notice. The private format lets the guide balance endemic targets, photography time and comfortable field pacing.

Reviews
"‘I am writing to you to send a formal review of our birding day tour with Dominic Rollinson on May 18, 2021. Matt and I are not bird experts by any means but we do enjoy watching and tracking the various species of birds back home here in the Houston, Texas area. It is very relaxing and very enjoyable learning new things about all of the beautiful feathered friends out there! While planning our South African adventures last year, we certainly knew that we had to spend one day learning about and hopefully seeing many of the beautiful birds of South Africa."
