Cape Teal

Anas capensis

The Cape Teal (Anas capensis) is a species of dabbling duck found in southern Africa. It is a medium-sized duck with a distinctive green speculum bordered by white. The male has a chestnut head and neck, while the female is mottled brown. Cape Teals are often found in shallow freshwater habitats such as lakes, marshes, and rivers, where they feed on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. They are known for their distinctive whistling calls and are often seen in small flocks. The conservation status of the Cape Teal is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
