Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Corthylio calendula (Linnaeus, 1766)

Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Corthylio calendula, breeds across North America and spends the nonbreeding season in Middle America. It is a member of the kinglet family and is found throughout its wide breeding range. The male shows a red crown patch, though this is often hidden, while the sexes are otherwise alike and young birds resemble adult females. It was placed in its own genus, Corthylio, in 2021 after being moved from Regulus. Three subspecies are recognised.
