Cossypha caffra (Linnaeus, 1771)

Cape Robin-Chat, Cossypha caffra, is found from South Sudan to South Africa. It has taken to altered places shaped by people, including city suburbs and farmstead woodlots, and it is a familiar, trusting bird in those settings. It also occurs in drier areas and at higher elevations. It feeds close to cover, in open ground or in places with good light. Its range is like that of the karoo–olive complex of thrushes, and it favours the bracken-briar edges of Afromontane forest rather than the forest interior. It is less secretive than the red-capped robin-chat.
