Cape Bulbul

Pycnonotus capensis

The Cape Bulbul (Pycnonotus capensis) is a medium-sized bird native to southern Africa. It is known for its distinctive melodic song and is often found in fynbos, forest edges, and gardens. This bird has a stocky build with a short neck, a pointed black bill, and a prominent crest. The plumage is predominantly olive-brown with a lighter underbelly and a yellow vent. Cape Bulbuls are omnivorous, feeding on fruits, insects, and nectar. They play an important role in seed dispersal and pollination within their habitat. While the population is currently stable, habitat loss and urbanization pose potential threats to their long-term survival.
