Cape Bulbul

Pycnonotus capensis (Linnaeus, 1766)

Cape Bulbul, Pycnonotus capensis, breeds in western and southern South Africa and is a bulbul in the passerine order. It is a resident bird of coastal bush, open woodland, gardens and fynbos. The species is mainly dark brown, with a white eye-ring and yellow undertail coverts, and it has a small crest. Its bill, legs and feet are black, and the sexes look alike. It is darker than other South African bulbuls, and young birds lack the adult eye-ring. The nest is a thick-walled cup hidden in foliage in a small tree or shrub.
