Crested Bunting

Emberiza lathami Gray, JE, 1831

Emberizidae — Buntings

Crested Bunting, Emberiza lathami, is a bunting of montane grass and scrub across southern Asia to eastern China, from north Pakistan and far western and central India to central and east-central China, and south through northern south-east Asia. Outside the breeding season it moves to lower ground, using grassland and cultivated areas, with only short southward shifts. It is marked by a crest shared by both sexes, a feature that once led to it being placed in its own genus. The species was described by Gray, JE, in 1831.
