Dark Batis

Batis crypta Fjeldså, Bowie & Kiure, 2006

Dark Batis, Batis crypta, is a passerine of the Platysteiridae family that lives in the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania and north-west Malawi. It was described as a separate species in 2006 by Fjeldså, Bowie & Kiure. Its range is tied to evergreen forest in upland country, where it occurs from the Ukaguru and Uluguru mountains south-west to the Misuku Hills and the Njesi Highlands. It is a small forest bird with a dark bill and legs, and the male is marked by a broad black breastband, a black face-mask and a white wing stripe.
