Brown Shrike

Lanius cristatus

The Brown Shrike (Lanius cristatus) is a small to medium-sized passerine bird that belongs to the shrike family. It is known for its distinctive brown and white plumage, with a black mask across its eyes. These birds are skilled hunters, preying on insects, small birds, and rodents. They are often found perched on open branches or wires, scanning for prey. Brown Shrikes are migratory birds, breeding in northern Asia and wintering in southern Asia. They prefer open woodland, scrubland, and agricultural areas for foraging. During the breeding season, they build cup-shaped nests in trees.
